We’ve used fresh onions in the past for this recipe, but once you load them up with cream sauce you can hardly tell they are out of a bag.
Also, for this dish, we use the “Medium” sauce below.
Ingredients: One package frozen pearl onions Use medium sauce to the right. | Medium Sauce: 2 Tablespoons butter 2 Tablespoons flour 1/4 Teaspoon salt 1 Cup milk Dash of white pepper |
For A Thicker Sauce: 3 Tablespoons butter 4 Tablespoons flour 1/4 Teaspoon salt 1 Cup milk Dash of white pepper | For a Thinner Sauce: 1 Tablespoon butter 1 Tablespoon flour 1/4 Teaspoon salt 1 1/2 Cups milk Dash of white pepper |
Directions:
Cook onions following package directions. Drain and reserve.
Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Blend in flour, salt and pepper. Add the milk all at once. Cook quickly stirring quickly with a wire whisk until it thickens and bubbles. Pour over the onions.
