Mémerè’s Meat Pie

The ingredients below will make 2 pies. We use pre-made pie crusts found in the store dairy case. You obviously can make crusts from scratch if you prefer. Serves 6. Revised Dec. 2022

Ingredients:

  • 2 Medium onions, chopped fine
  • 4 Medium potatoes cut in 1 inch cubes
  • 1 Package Jimmy Dean sausage
  • 2 Lb. ground beef
  • 2 Lb. ground pork
  • 1 Tablespoon Bells seasoning (more to taste)
  • 2 Cups Royal Lunch milk crackers (1/4 box) ground fine
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 1/2 Cup water
  • 2 Packaged pie crusts
  • 1 egg beaten with 2 tablespoons of water (optional)

Directions: Preheat oven to 375° F.

In a large stock pot, sauté onions until translucent. Add the beef, pork and sausage to the pot. Break it up as it is cooking. Once it is broken up, add the potatoes, Bells, salt, pepper and water.

Cover and cook until potatoes are soft. Stir occasionally. When meat is cooked and potatoes are soft, remove from heat and crush potatoes & meat with a potato masher. Add the crumbs and stir until they absorb the liquid.

Fill two pies with the meat mixture. Brush the tops of the crusts with egg wash. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool pies at least 30 minutes before serving.
