Yorkshire Puddings – The Base for Great Stews

Everyone likes stew, but it does get a little boring just served in a bowl with a hunk of bread on the side.  These Yorkshire Pudding cups are a great variation. They absorb the gravy and are light and tender.

You do need a Yorkshire Pudding Pan to make them. Available on Amazon.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Yorkshire Pudding Pan
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
  • Vegetable spray
  • 1 Tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 Additional tablespoons of butter cut in 6 pieces

Directions: Preheat oven to 375º F.

Blend the flour, eggs, milk salt and melted butter until the batter is the consistency of heavy cream. Let stand for about 20 minutes. Batter should be at room temperature.

Spray the pan with the vegetable spray. Heat pan in oven for about 2 minutes. Remove and place a small piece of butter in each cup and put back in oven for about 30 seconds, until melted and bubbly.

Remove again and pour batter evenly into cups and bake for 20 minutes. Without opening the oven door, reduce temperature to 300º F and continue cooking for 10-15 more minutes.

Serve hot from the oven or serve as a base for your favorite stew, like The Net Gourmet’s Veal Stew below.
