Well it doesn’t have to be. Add a little spice, some chopped veggies for some crunch, any cheese with more flavor than traditional American, and you have a gourmet sandwich.
Ingredients:
- 2 Cans your favorite tuna, in water. drained
- 1/2 Cup chopped red onions (or shallots)
- 1/2 Cup chopped celery
- 1/2 Cup minced carrot
- 3 Tablespoons mayonase
- 2 Teaspoons celery seed
- 4 Slices cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 8 Slices of a hearty bread like wheat
- Salt and pepper
- Soft butter for the bread
Directions:
Combine the tuna, mayo, onion, celery, carrot, celery seed, salt and pepper in a mixing bowl.
Heat a frying or grill pan to medium heat.
Lightly butter the bread. Place 4 of the buttered breads butter side down on the frying or grill pan. Top with 1/4 of the tuna mixture, then a slice of cheese.
Then finish with remaining slice of bread buttered side up.
Flip when golden brown. Cook until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted.
Serves 4.
