Sashimi Tuna Over Spring Mix

Raw tuna… confusing? Yellowfin tuna, also known as ahi (the Hawaiian word for tuna), is less expensive than bluefin but not far behind in quality. Raw, sashimi-grade ahi is used in poke bowls and sushi rolls. Hope that helps. This recipe serves 2.

Ingredients:

  • Yellowfin tuna for 2. one 10-16 ounce steak cut in two.
  • Sesame seeds
  • Vegetable oil for cooking
  • 8 Ounce package of spring mix
  • 1/4 Cup bottled sesame ginger salad dressing
  • 1/2 Orange cut in 1 inch pieces
  • 1/2 Cucumber sliced
  • 1 Tomato cut in bite sized pieces
  • Anything else you like in your salad

Directions:

Prepare your salad first. Toss the dressing with the spring mix and any other vegetables you want in your salad and arrange on individual plates. Place the bite size orange pieces on top.

Cut the tuna so it’s even on all sides. Ideally, you will end up with 2 pieces 1½-2 inches square about 6 inches long. Arrange sesame seeds in a shallow dish. Press the seeds into all sides of the fish.

Preheat a heavy grill or frying pan to very hot. Pour in just a little oil to coat the bottom. Grill the tuna for exactly 1 minute on all sides (4 minutes total). Remove from the grill and let them rest on a cutting board for a couple of minutes. Slice and arrange on top of the salad. Drizzle a little more of the sesame ginger dressing over the top.
