Genuine Mexican Taco Sauce

There is no reason to buy taco sauce in a jar. It’s simple to make, quick to prepare, and it tastes great!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 Onion, diced
  • 1 Green pepper, diced
  • 1 Red or green chili pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 Teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 Clove garlic crushed
  • 1/2 Teaspoon each: Salt, pepper and sugar
  • 1 14 oz. can crushed tomatoes
  • 1-2 Tablespoons tomato paste

Directions:

In a heavy saucepan, heat the oil and add the onions and green peppers. Cook until softened. Chop the chili (after removing the seeds) and add to the pot with the cumin, coriander and garlic. Cook for another couple of minutes

Add the sugar, the rest of the seasonings and tomatoes with their juice. Break up the tomatoes with a potato masher. Cook another 5 minutes until it thickens slightly. Add some tomato paste if you think it need to be a little thicker.

May be used hot or cold. You may need a little more salt and pepper if using cold.
